Remote Access

Once your machine is paired, you can open your trading app from any device with a browser — a second computer, a laptop on the road, your phone — and you're looking at the exact positions, orders, and market data running on your own machine. Nothing is copied to the cloud for this to happen; you're reaching your install over a private link. This article covers how to log in from anywhere, what you'll see if your machine is unreachable, and how to keep that now-reachable login secure.

Logging in from anywhere

  1. Go to your trading app at app.volninja.com in any browser. In a browser you've never used before, you'll land on the Sign in screen.
  2. Enter the Email and Password for your VolNinja account and press Sign in.
  3. You arrive at your Dashboard, connected straight through to your machine.

That's it — there's nothing to install on the device you're borrowing, and no separate "remote" mode. The same login works everywhere, and you can be signed in on more than one device at the same time (for example, your desk computer and your phone) — each simply views the same live data.

Tip

Your account is the key, not the device. To stop using a shared or public computer, just sign out — that browser can no longer reach your machine until someone signs in again.

Your machine has to be running

Remote access is a private link to your install — so your machine must be running and paired for the app to have anything to connect to. It does not have to stay in front of you, but it does have to stay on and awake.

If you open the app while your machine is unreachable — it's off, asleep, or lost its connection — you'll see a Can't reach your machine screen instead of the Dashboard. This is expected. VolNinja keeps trying and reconnects automatically the moment your machine is back — there's no need to refresh or sign in again. It also shows when the machine was Last connected, and a Troubleshoot the connection link if it stays down.

Important

Because the app talks only to your own machine, remote access is not a way to trade while your machine is off. If you rely on VolNinja to manage positions for you, keep the machine running and prevent it from sleeping. Broker-side protections you set up survive your machine being down — see how standing orders work in Automating exits.

Keeping your login secure

Reaching your app from anywhere is convenient — and it means your login is now the thing standing between the internet and your live trading. Treat it accordingly:

  • Use a strong, unique password for your VolNinja account.
  • Turn on two-factor authentication (2FA). In your account's Two-factor authentication section, choose Set up two-factor authentication, scan the QR code with an authenticator app (1Password, Google Authenticator, Authy, …), and enter the 6-digit code to confirm. From then on you'll be asked for a code each time you log in.
  • Save your recovery codes. When you enable 2FA you're shown a set of one-time recovery codes — store them somewhere safe. They're how you get back in if you lose your authenticator.

Important

Your trading data still never leaves your machine — remote access only carries requests back and forth over the private link. See How VolNinja works for exactly what does and doesn't touch the cloud. Securing your login protects the door to that link.

Managing where you're connected

You decide which machine your account points at, and you can cut the link at any time. From your account you can see your paired device, whether it's currently Connected, and revoke it to disconnect immediately — covered in Managing your account. Pairing a different machine also replaces the old one automatically, as described in Pairing a device.

If remote access won't come up at all, the Troubleshooting guide walks through the usual causes — machine asleep, connection dropped, or a device that needs re-pairing.
